Raisin

 

Called passes, raisins or raisin grapes to dry, dehydrated, partially. Often eaten raw, cooked or as a condiment in gourmet dishes. They are very sweet due to the high concentration of sugars and if stored for a long time the sugar crystallizes into the fruit. In a laboratory, extracts of grapes got retard the development of Streptococcus, one of the main bacteria that cause cavities. Five chemicals in raisins - oleanolic acid, oleanolic aldehyde, betulin, betulinic acid and 5 - (hydroximetil)-2-furfural - seem to be responsible for delaying these bacteria. Moreover, oleanolic acid prevents some bacteria settle in the tooth enamel.
