Baking soda

 

Sodium bicarbonate (aka baking soda or sodium bicarbonate or sodium hydrogen carbonate) is a compound of white crystalline solid very soluble in water, with a slight alkaline taste resembling that of sodium carbonate, formula NaHCO3.

Can be found as a mineral in nature or can be produced artificially. Due to the ability of sodium bicarbonate to release carbon dioxide is used with acidic compounds as an additive leavening in bread and soft drink production. Some yeast made bread containing sodium bicarbonate.
